I set up a dedicated Wix page for the group where I uploaded the lesson each day. Each lesson included audio clips of the vocab lists and reading texts. There is a youtube video of a dialogue relating to the topic. I'm using Goanimate now which I find better than the Xtranormal videos I previously made - you can see some of the results on my Youtube channel (Virginia Allum) or on the facebook page – English for Nursing and Healthcare).
One of the reasons I like Goanimate is that I can make my own characters, characters of any ethnicity and sex. I am now able to have male nurses! I can also make my patients look the way I want.
I made occasional use of Animoto to showcase students' work e.g. posters which they made on several health topics.
I used to put up a Youtube video each evening with corrections using Youtube capture. The Wix allowed me to add audio and video. At the end of the course I collected all the lessons and printed them as a book (on Lulu).
Using the Wix has also been very useful. I have been able to to set up separate Wixes for each student or student group. The Wix is not interactive as such but you have audio (I use Audacity for this) and video at least. There was also a dedicated facebook page set up where the students uploaded their video homework so I could check their pronunciation. It was an easy way for us all to communicate.
This particular format worked very well for the nurses as they were all working shifts and could log in whenever they had a minute. Some of them videoed their homework on their phones at work!
As a finale to the course, I collected the materials from the 20 lessons and published them on Lulu.
